How the hell do you improve on transparency? Kindda by definition, that's as accurate as it gets. Sound cards are not marketable to the placebofile audiopeelz community.Ī transparent amp and dac is O2 and Odac. The OP's post mentions the x7 as a 'soundcard and dac', that's where I got the idea from. I don't need to know the specifics, spare me, please. Headfi people tend to be more discerning and thorough in terms of audio equipment choice and many poo-pooed the X7 until actually trying it. It essentially can replace several pieces of equipment.Īnd if you read the threads at all on Headfi about it posters are very analytical, critical, praising, dismissive, and wary about it. The software is okay but getting better and you can also change opamps if you choose to adjust your sound.

It's an external Amp/Dac/Headphone Amp that supports 5.1 surround, Dolby Digital, SBX (Creative's thing) has bluetooth capabilities, NFC, allows for Passive speakers to be connected, has 2 headphone jacks, a mic jack, and a beamforming internal mic as well. The X7 isn't a soundcard, which shows me how little you know about the product. An expensive sound card makes no sense when for cheaper you can get a transparent external amp/dac. All you gotta do is take a cheap piece of equipment, raise the price and change the trimmings, now it's a hit on Headfi. I also take Headfi with a huge grain of salt. I wish Linus and company would review the damn thing as well as other audio products like the Roccat Kave XTD. The software has been regularly updated based on serious audiophile suggestions. The X7 is a great catch all that takes the place of several pieces of equipment. In fact there are two extensive reviews/use thread on as well, one of which Creative employees are actively answering and attending to feedback. Creative no longer supports just gamers they are making serious insteps to the audiophile arena. Have you even used the X7? I own the LE edition and it's amazing. Whatever you do, don't get that Creative product. Because those are often the weakest links, upgrading those or fixing those things will often give you much more of an upgrade. Designing a perfect headphone or speaker or listening room with perfect acoustics, now that's much harder. Are you sure you even need an external dac and amp? Do you think that paying more will automatically make your music better? What headphones/speakers are you running?ĭesigning an audibly transparent dac isn't too hard. Creative stuff are gamer brands, it's just not a good idea to pay too much money for their stuff.
